On the House!

As summer draws to a close, there's a glimmer of sun (much like our own) for the Jolly Tanners Pub in Haywards Heath. If the weather remains favourable next year, this beloved establishment is set to become an even more tempting destination for locals and visitors alike.

Last week, Lomax Design submitted plans for a new dining extension and an expanded kitchen at the rear of the pub, on Handcross Road. This development promises to breathe fresh life into the beloved 'local' adding to its rich history.

The Jolly Tanners, a Grade II listed building, began its journey as a cluster of four terraced houses and a cosy corner pub, earning its first mention in the Directory of Pubs as far back as 1859. Over the years, it has witnessed substantial transformations, and change is again on the horizon.

In the 20th century, the pub underwent significant alterations, departing from its original 19th-century charm. Now, in the 21st century, post-COVID, and in response to renewed demand, the Jolly Tanners, like many other pubs, is adapting to meet the evolving needs of its patrons.

With a legacy spanning nearly two centuries and proudly carrying the same name throughout. We eagerly anticipate breathing new life into both the pub itself and the established village of Staplefield.
