After the hiatus of Covid we are pleased to announce that we have re-joined Wired Sussex and we have been invited to take up residency in their Innovation Centre, the FuseBox, in Brighton. Described on their web site as “a place where knowledge and practices from the arts and design mesh with new technologies, and where innovators can be supported and can support each other”, it gets its inspiration and name from the Brighton Fuse research projects which demonstrated the many ways in which the fusion of creative practice and technology is central to innovation and growth. This perfectly aligns with our philosophy and culture and plays to the strengths of the City from which we operate. Phil Jones, MD of Wired Sussex states “Brighton’s enduring strength is its ability to bring together creativity with new technologies in really imaginative ways”.
For us, this move is all about collaboration, one of our core values and resolves our discussions around home/office/hybrid working. We are designers and creative knowledge workers and as such we are very capable of working alone and enjoying the benefits of fewer interruptions and distractions, and yet ideas take shape through collaboration and become solutions when they move through an organisation. In the right context the design process benefits from those involved working in close physical proximity enjoying intellectual intimacy that sets of “sparks” and leads to faster and more effective solutions. Despite our hyper-connected remote world, it is important to meet to capitalise on these “sparks” and whilst meetings can be held remotely, it is important to have face to face teamwork and serendipitous collaboration. We believe that this form of bi-location working will ensure we operate at our optimum problem-solving ability, and where better location than this renowned collaborative R&D hub.
For many years we have been at the forefront of combining design and the creative imagination with technological innovation and our Head of Technology who runs our “Vision” business stream, Gareth Evans, now has the back-up support of The FuseBox. This currently houses the Brighton Immersive Lab where we can take advantage of a wide range of specialist and exclusive kit, including 3d printers, the latest VR/AR headsets, a green screen room, an advanced motion capture suite, holographic display hardware, 360 cameras and a 5G testbed. Both Gareth and the team are using this timely return to re-stablish partnerships paused over the pandemic and enter a new period of experimentation and collaboration with the other creatives in the space.
Please come and see us. We warmly welcome our clients, collaborators and other creatives to visit us in our new setting and admire the technologies available to us and how we use them.
